CHALLENGING BEHAVIOUR SUPPORT
Louise specialises in working with parents and schools to assist them in supporting children whose behaviours can challenge. In doing so, Louise first conducts a behaviour assessment to find out why the challenging behaviour is occurring and what the child is trying to communicate when he/ she acts in a challenging way.
Next, Louise writes up a step-by-step Support Plan for parents and/ or teachers which outlines what they can do differently to help to reduce the level of overwhelm experienced by the child, and how they can help the child to achieve what they are trying to achieve when acting in challenging way.
Central to the step-by-step Support Plan is helping the child to practice new, alternative behaviours to those they have been using, and rewarding their efforts with abundant praise, encouragement and respect for their experience.
